Yippee: Poundshop opens full online store

Poundshop is a most excellent concept, and one I've written about before. It is a shop – previously a sporadic, temporary affair – where new and established talent create bespoke items to be sold for less than £5 (and often, indeedy, for just one lone squid).

The news this time is that they have launched a full online shop. It is brilliant. Here are some great things from it.

Totem blocks, £1 each (pictured above)
Love these 45mmx45mm colourful hand-printed blogs. The wood is mahogany. I feel these would definitely enhance some corner of the house, possibly a currently empty windowsill. What would you do with them?

Black and turquoise clipboard, £1
Not only is this 14cm x 20cm office or busy kitchen organising aid only ONE pound and very perky to look upon, it is also made from FSC approved plywood, printed with eco-friendly inks and hand cut and sanded to smoothness. It also comes in grey and pale blue. ONE POUND people.

Wickham’s Wedge, £1
The designer behind this is called Wickham's concern, and "Wickham"'s grandfather is said to have put the fact that he managed to land a local beauty (Wickham's grandmother) down to their first date – on which he fashioned a wedge to stabilise the table, preventing a gooseberry blancmange from bespoiling her petticoat. This compact multi-purpose wedge is the final result.

Streat With Me, £1
This, who'd've thunk it, is a place setting. How very lovely. It comes with a blank card to write a name. And if you like a nice cardboard rendition of a building, do check out MONUmini.

Safari name holders, £1
These metallic gold animal characters are possibly my favourites. You could use them if you're trying to impress dinner guests, but equally just leave them around the house displaying random words you like. Or, as I plan to do, shamelessly copy this excellent idea by the Australian stylist Jason Grant, but a) the poor toy shop near me suffered a terrible flood and has been shut ever since and, b) now I've found these and can copy but not quite so blindly. Maybe one day I'll use them as name card holders, but for now – picture frame adornments will do me just fine.

Mr Jackdoor, £5
Yes. Birds, birds, birds. Anyhow. So this nice bird will set you back a teeny bit more because it is beautiful AND functional. It can sit around merely being aesthetically pleasing, or it can become a door-wedge. Nice. His name is Mr Jackdoor and has been cut from reclaimed birch plywood and polished with love and by hand, using Isle of Wight beeswax.
